Mazaher Ensemble Zar Concerts at Makan

Every Wednesday the Mazaher ensemble plays two sets of zar at Makan in Mounira. Zar is one of the few Egyptian musical traditions in which women take the leading role, and because it survived largely on the margins it kept much of its original form, possibly dating back to ancient Egypt. In Egypt it comes in three main styles: Egyptian (Saidi), Abul Gheit and Sudanese.

When: Every Wednesday. First concert 8 PM to 9:15 PM; second concert at 9:45 PM.
Where: Makan, 1 Saad Zaghloul St, next to the Saad Zaghloul Mausoleum (near Saad Zaghloul metro).
Tickets: 300 EGP. Seats are limited, so book by WhatsApp message at least a day ahead; reserved guests enter from 7 PM and unclaimed bookings are released at 7:20 PM.
