Location: Maadi, Cairo

A 4-weekend journey into the universe of clown physicality and a little of grotesque.

This long-form program is designed to slowly build your ability to understand and embody the essence of clowning and physical comedy and we will explore a bit of grotesque. We will discover the poetic, the tender, and the magical world that the clown can access. At the same time, we will work with the dark, the ugly, and the unreasonable within the grotesque to develop richer, more complex characters.

When these two worlds meet, a bigger spectrum of play opens up. We can access a space where not only joy and laughter take place, but also where the audacity of the grotesque gives us permission to hold up a mirror to the injustices of the world, present the truth, and provoke intentionally.

Beautiful, daring and opening doors to ridiculous possibilities.

Expect deep work with the physical body, emotions, pleasure, animality, failure, discomfort and presence. This experience is for beginners or people who are new to clowning.

Disclaimer: Clowning and grotesque are powerful theatre practices that invite openness, curiosity, and a willingness to go to unfamiliar, even repressed places. This work isn’t only light or silly, it may touch unwanted emotions, discomfort, or themes we avoid or don’t usually explore. If something gets stirred in you, that’s completely natural.
We approach all of this gently and respectfully, with humor, consent, and a supportive environment. You are never pushed past what feels right for you, and you’re encouraged to take care of yourself throughout the process. The aim is not to overwhelm, but to open new doors in a way that feels safe and honest.
